L’Utopie Photographique

Marta Braun reviews L’Utopie Photographique, published on the 150th anniversary of the second oldest photographic society in the world, the Société française de photographie. Not only does it tell the institution’s story for the first time, it forms “an important contribution to a neglected history of that fragile moment when art and science came together in the creation of the photographic image … [and it's] a symbol of the utopia that the current SFP is building, a vibrant international association of seasoned and emerging historians and theorists who in Etudes and this exhibition and catalogue have begun to write the new history of photography.”
