Images of war: still an all too urgent topic. The edited volume War Visions incorporates analysis of comics and computer games into the study of the aesthetics of war (reviewed by Anne Ulrich). Agnes Matthias considers 30-odd artists who have used photography to address wars of the 1980s and 1990s, connecting them to the history of relating art to reality and truth to fiction (reviewed by Angelika Leitzke). Also: Claus Leggewie reviews two books by Gerhard Paul on the “war of images,” as does Guido Isekenmeier, who notes that Paul has the habit of referring to each new war as the first example of its own special kind, in his narrative about the continuous escalation of the image war, and looks in vain for actual citations of particular media images in the index.
