Who’s Getting Hired? (part V)

by | 16 March 2007 | Career, News

Of the 137 assistant professors in our survey, 95 are women. That’s 69%. For comparison, about 75% of art-history PhDs produced this decade have been women. It’s hard to say much about the hiring patterns of individual schools, given the small numbers involved. The most significant examples we could find were these: all six of Yale’s assistant professors are women, while just half of Michigan’s eight assistant professors are. Yale’s full art-history faculty, tenured and untenured, is now 56% women, about the same as Michigan’s 54% — excluding lecturers, adjuncts, emeriti, etc.
