We recently discovered the annual Bookfinder.com Report, which exists to “track demand trends for a wide range of out-print titles.” Examining the last report, in the category of “Arts and Music,” the third-most-searched-for book was a work of art history, Paul Smith’s Dutch Flower Painting, 1600-1720. Last we searched, the cheapest available copy on Amazon.com cost $338.67. Ironically, the book’s 1995 Library Journal review doubted it would appeal widely: “Because much of the book concentrates on fairly narrow interpretive issues, however, it will be of primary interest to scholars and students of the period.”
