Prague Jewish Museum at 100

Why did the Nazis allow the museum to continue its operations and even undertake an historic expansion? According to the Prague Daily Monitor, “There are several theories attempting to explain it, but none of them is supported by historical evidence. According to the most frequently used explanation in the post-war era, Nazis planned to establish the ‘Museum of Exterminated Race’ in Prague after the war, and that is why they collected such an immense amount of Jewish artifacts and books there … However, historian Magda Veselska, who works in the museum’s documentary section, objects that no written mention about this plan was preserved in German documents.”
